StrykeX gives option sellers a no-code Custom Strategy Builder, an Options Wizard, unlimited backtest credits and Forward Test in one yearly plan. Whichever platform you use, check margin preview, hedge-first order, multi-leg handling, adjustments, stop-losses, expiry rules, registration and cost.
This guide gives that eight-point checklist and a hypothetical rupee example.
Why do option sellers choose StrykeX?
Option sellers repeat a few structures and adjust them by rule, so they gain most from building, testing and rehearsing those rules cheaply. StrykeX's pricing page, read on 3 Oct 2026, lists these tools in one plan.
- No-code Custom Strategy Builder: you turn a structure such as an iron condor into rules without writing code. Our builder tutorial shows the steps.
- Options Wizard: a tool named for options work sits in the same plan as the builder.
- Backtest Terminal with unlimited backtest credits: you can test the base trade and every adjustment variant without counting credits.
- Forward Test: you can rehearse leg order, margin display and exits at one lot before live capital.
- 30+ pre-built algo strategies and 100+ indicators: you can start from a template and change the triggers.
- Equity, futures and options with Fully Automatic Trading: a futures hedge and option legs sit in one plan.
- Advanced Algo Trading Course: training is part of the plan.
The listed price is ₹6,499 a month, or ₹79,999 a year billed annually, inclusive of 18% GST, with No Cost EMI on credit cards and UPI EMI. Read the live-deployment limit on the StrykeX pricing page. Stockwiz Technologies LLP, a SEBI-registered Research Analyst (INH000013925), operates StrykeX, which is empanelled with NSE and BSE.
Why do option sellers need different criteria?
Selling options earns a limited premium but can lose far more. That lopsided payoff is why seller-specific checks matter more than a platform's feature count.
SEBI's FY25 study found that 91% of individual F&O traders had net losses, about ₹1,05,603 crore in aggregate. The FY26 study, “Profitability of Individual Traders in the Equity Derivatives Segment (FY25-FY26)”, found 87.7% had net losses, about ₹91,685 crore, as reported on 20 Aug 2026. A news report on it adds that about 97% of traders mainly bought options and about 2% mainly sold them.
Our explainer on the 90% number covers FY25. For platforms, see our comparison of no-code algo platforms.
What is the checklist for judging an options-selling algo platform?
Use eight checks, and test each in a Forward Test or paper test at one lot before real capital. The StrykeX column shows what its own pages state; where they state nothing, the cell says how to test it.
Score each check 0, 1 or 2 (fails, partly, passes) for a total out of 16. A platform that scores 0 on margin preview, hedge-first sequencing or risk limits is out, whatever its total.
What is the checklist for judging an options-selling algo platform?
Why does hedge-first order sequencing matter?
Brokers calculate margin on the positions you hold at that moment. Buying the protective option before selling the short one lets the hedge reduce margin from the first sell order.
Zerodha's support page on hedged positions says that placing buy option orders before futures or short option orders executes the hedge position with the least margin requirement. Its example shows a short Nifty futures position needing ₹1,06,899.21 of margin alone and ₹44,198.38 once hedged, a fall of about 59%. Those figures reflect that article's prices and lot size, so treat them as an illustration.
Other brokers apply their own rules, so ask yours about leg order, then confirm it in a Forward Test at small size.
How much margin does an iron condor need? A worked rupee example
An iron condor is a short strangle with bought options on both sides, so its worst case is capped.
Hypothetical example. Assume Nifty at 25,000 and a lot of 65 units; check the current lot size before you trade. All premiums are invented, positions are held to expiry, and brokerage, taxes and slippage are ignored.
Entry, hedge-first: buy 24,300 PE at 60 points and 25,700 CE at 55, then sell 24,500 PE at 90 and 25,500 CE at 85. Net credit is 90 + 85 - 60 - 55 = 60 points, or ₹3,900 a lot (60 × 65). The widest wing is 200 points, so the maximum loss is (200 - 60) × 65 = ₹9,100 a lot. Break-evens are 24,440 and 25,560.
An unhedged strangle selling only the 24,500 PE and 25,500 CE takes in 175 points, or ₹11,375 a lot, with no cap on either side.
Now add illustrative margins, not a quote: ₹60,000 for the iron condor and ₹1,60,000 for the strangle. Your broker's calculator will show the real figure. On those figures the condor's maximum loss is about 15.2% of margin (9,100 ÷ 60,000), while the strangle's 23,000 outcome costs about 54% (86,125 ÷ 1,60,000). The condor earns less in the quiet case, but it is the version a builder lets you define and test in minutes.

How do SEBI's expiry-day margin rules change option selling?
A seller's platform should reflect SEBI's expiry-day margin changes in its margin preview.
SEBI's circular of 1 October 2024 on equity index derivatives levies an additional extreme loss margin of 2% on short options contracts on the day they expire, effective 20 November 2024. It also says the calendar spread benefit is not available on the day of expiry, effective 1 February 2025. Our post on uTrade Algos vs Stratzy vs StrykeX: 2026 Comparison
How should you evaluate adjustments and stop-losses?
An adjustment or stop-loss is only as good as its rule, and a rule is only as good as its testing.
- Triggers: short-leg premium rising to a multiple of entry, delta crossing a level, index moving a set number of points, or a time of day.
- Actions: closing the threatened side, rolling to a farther strike or adding a hedge. Check that hedge-first ordering still applies to a roll.
- Stops: per leg, combined premium, MTM loss in rupees and time-based exit. Fills can be worse than the trigger in fast markets.
- Testing: the base trade and its adjustments should both be testable before live use.
Testing capacity matters here. Hypothetically, one base trade and four adjustment variants over 3 years is five backtests. On uTrade Algos, whose pricing page read on 3 Oct 2026 lists 10 credits for a 3-year backtest, that is 50 credits: two-thirds of Beginner's 75 (about 67%) and 10% of Essentials' 500. StrykeX lists unlimited backtest credits.

Questions traders ask before paying
Does StrykeX show margin and hedge order for option sellers?

What does it cost?
The pricing page lists ₹6,499 a month, or ₹79,999 a year billed annually, inclusive of 18% GST, with the live-deployment limit shown there. No Cost EMI on credit cards and UPI EMI are listed. Prices can change, so confirm on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions
Which algo trading platform is best for options selling?
No single platform fits everyone, so judge on margin preview, hedge-first sequencing, multi-leg handling, adjustments, stop-losses and risk limits. StrykeX suits sellers who want a no-code builder, an Options Wizard, unlimited backtest credits and Forward Test in one plan. Test at one lot before real capital.
Is option selling safer than option buying?
Not by default. Sellers earn a capped premium but can lose much more. A news report on the FY26 study says buyers fared worse as a group, but only about 2% of traders mainly sold. A StrykeX Forward Test lets you rehearse either approach before live money.
How does hedging reduce margin for option selling?
A bought option offsets part of a short position's risk, so margin falls once both legs are held. In Zerodha's support example it fell from ₹1,06,899.21 to ₹44,198.38. Confirm your broker's leg-order rule in a Forward Test.
What changed for option sellers on expiry day?
SEBI's 1 Oct 2024 circular added a 2% extreme loss margin on short options expiring that day, effective 20 Nov 2024, and removed the calendar spread benefit on expiry day, effective 1 Feb 2025.
Can option selling be automated in India?
Yes, within SEBI's framework: through a broker, with exchange-tagged algo orders, a whitelisted static IP and two-factor authentication. StrykeX offers Fully Automatic Trading across equity, futures and options. Automation runs rules faster but does not make a rule profitable.
